  1. Broadcasting is the transmission of sound and
  2. vision programmes by RADIO and TELEVISION.
  3. Broadcasting may be organized under private
  4. enterprise, as in the USA, or may operate 
  5. under a compromise system, as in Britain, 
  6. where there is a television and radio 
  7. service controlled by the state regulated 
  8. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and 
  9. also the commercial Independent Television
  10. Commission (ITC). In the USA, broadcasting is
  11. only limited by the issue of licences from 
  12. he Federal Communications Commission to 
  13. competing commercial companies, whilst in
  14. Britain, the BBC is a centralized body 
  15. appointed by the state and responsible to
  16. Parliament, but with policy and programme 
  17. content not controlled by the state.
